What a wonderful GNOME!

Xgl LogoWell every one knows that GNOME rocks, but from a users prespective, and news reader, we could be thinking that Linux and GNOME is a step behind Microsoft, specially Vista’s effects and redenring effects. As I previously posted here comparing to Vista, Novell is working on an extension to X.org that would allow any X application to be rendered using the 2D/3D accelerated graphics features, improving both users experience and allowing us such things as 3D windows, real 3D buttons, true transparency, etc….

It happens that today, Novell announced the release of Xgl and iminent release of Compiz – a window manager that makes use of all this cool features.

After seeing the movies I’ve to admit that we’re getting really close to Vista’s features. That’s a great and amazing job dudes! I just hope this to be released and stable as soon as possible!

After that ships image the beauty and power of a GNOME based desktop comparing to XP or even Vista, lovely! I just hope that the C# X bindings (xnb) can make use of Xgl 😛
