I’ve been developing an application on my intranet and everything works quick. But when I do release my application to external (internet) server I’ve found that the performance was far from acceptable. The reason is not in the server nor the client, its the network itself if you’re transmitting too much data.
Under IIS on Windows XP Pro you don’t have any options to limit the connection speed, so you can’t test for this problems while on your local computer or intranet. What I’ve found is this little tool that enables you to limit the bandwidth based on processes and the network (mycomputer, local network, internet). It is pretty useful if you’re under those conditions. Check it out here.
Still, this is Shareware and I would love to find a nice opensource/freeware solution.
